A path through the woods at Magnolia Gardens lead to this open area of small lakes and marshy wetlands.   It's a beautiful and peaceful place, full of wildlife, including many birds.

I first photographed what's left of downtown Ft. Motte, located near the Congaree River in central South Carolina, in 1974.   The post office is boarded up, but the building hangs on.   This view was taken in the Spring of 2008.

The sun's reflection and tiny ripples on the surface of the lake at Magnolia Gardens draw me contantly to the water's edge with my camera.   I can frame endless scenes here that delight and stir the imagination.  Nature provides unending canvases for painting what I see through the magic of digital photograpy.

In just about the geographical middle of the state, a town of empty buildings and rural memories, an abandoned train depot, soybean fields and a straight country road.  Clean air, stillness, blue skies and clouds.   I love it when I get to this place.

An abandoned country store along a back road in the middle of nowhere... how long will we be able to see these iconic structures from a time in the past that has long gone the way of nostalgia for simpler times?

I never tire of looking for interesting reflections in water to photograph.  This is along one of the lakes at Magnolia Gardens recently.   I see worlds within worlds.

An archetypal country scene, taken about six weeks ago about 40 miles northwest of Charleston, S.C.    I found a new back road route today, one I have never before taken in the 14 years I have lived in the area.   Life is about discovery.

An open field, a lone oak tree standing watch, and puffy, summery skies  -- back roads driving does not get much finer than these kinds of landscapes and vistas.
